The Montebellos Islands or Monte Bellos offer some of the best fishing and diving boat charters in Western Australia. Most of our charter boats leave from Exmouth, though some do offer alternative departures from Coral Bay too.

This island group is also called the “Montes” by locals.  They are an archipelago of around 174 small islands of which only 92 actually have a name. Additionally, they are 20 kilometres (12 miles) north of Barrow Island and 130 kilometres (81 miles) off the Pilbara coast of north-western Australia.

Of the smaller islands, the largest are:

  • North-West Island
  • Primrose Island
  • Bluebell Island
  • Alpha Island
  • Crocus Island
  • Campbell Island
  • Delta Island
  • Renewal Island
  • Ah Chong Island

There are also 10 named groups of small islets, whose individual islands have not yet been named:

  • Corkwood Islands
  • Fig Islands
  • Hakea Islands
  • Jarrah Islands
  • Jasmine Islands
  • Karri Islands
  • Marri Islands
  • Minnieritchie Islands
  • Mulga Islands
  • Quandong Islands

The Montebello Islands form a wildlife sanctuary of turquoise blue waters that are teeming with fish and corals. It was also the site of three British nuclear weapons tests: one in 1952 and two in 1956. Yet they have now recovered to become a darling of the charter boat world. This is a mecca for fishing and diving charters that few ever experience.
